eSchool & Virtual Program Policies
This is a possible course extension of up to 3 weeks based on the policy. A student must have at least 65% of the course work completed and no more than 2 weeks of absences to apply. The application and procedure can be found on the academic extension form. Any student who applies should first work with their instructor to verify course progress. This IS NOT an option beyond quarter four (the end of the KUSD school year). Zangle will be used by our instructors to record the attendance of each student for participation purposes. Course attendance will be taken on a weekly basis, from 12:01 a.m. on Monday to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. The student is assumed present for all days (Monday through Friday) unless no assignment has been submitted during that week. If by the Friday morning of the attendance week, a student has not submitted a successfully completed assignment, the intervention step of a reminder message will be sent to the student/mentor. It would remind the student that he/she has to submit material before the end of the day on Sunday or he/she will be marked truant for that entire week. If the end of the week comes (11:59 Sunday), and there is still no submission, the teacher will go back and retroactively mark the student as truant for that entire week. That value would not change even if assignments are submitted at a later date. To clarify a few misunderstandings, mainly due to the program differences between eSchool and the rest of the district, we would like to point out some basic notions. Due to our unique program, we have developed a working solution to satisfy our commitment, the District records, and the requirements of the Wisconsin Department of Instruction. • The teachers will only mark a student as either present (default value) or truant. • Truant is used because the teachers cannot authorize an excused absence. • A truancy is really an excused absence. • Each night, all truancies will be converted to excused absences. This batch conversion will make sure no truant values are left on a student’s record and will be reflected in Zangle. • Work needs to be submitted each week to remain present for that week. • Out of sequence future submissions will not be counted as participating, as this could be used to exploit student involvement. Students may work at a faster pace, but they must do so in sequence, so they provide themselves with the best opportunity for success. In summary, if a student is marked truant (excused), it means that no work has been submitted for an entire week, and the student would be off pace. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your instructor or call the eSchool office at 359-7715. This is an option for any KUSD student who has failed an eSchool course. Based on either full time or part time enrollment, the student has the opportunity to recover a failed mark, and obtain the required credits for graduation. Click on the option below to view the entire procedure. Due to course enrollments, you may or may not be able to immediately begin the credit recovery process, though reasonable effort will be used in scheduling for optimal student completion.
